Suicide is a leading health risk in the United States and worldwide. Many group clients experience varying degrees of suicidality on an ongoing basis. Group therapists have clinical, ethical and legal responsibilities to monitor suicide risk in their clients. This event will provide the group therapist with knowledge, tools and interventions that permit them to manage these risks in the context of their groups.
Dr. Sheppard is a psychologist in private practice in Louisville, KY. His book, Group Psychotherapy with Children was published in 2008 by the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA). He became a Fellow of AGPA in 2012 and received Spalding University’s Alumni of the Year Award in 2018. He teaches at the local, state and national levels on group therapy and suicide and self-harm.
